Shri Eknathrao Khadse (MLA of Maharashtra)
Minister of Revenue, Agriculture, Excise and Minority Affairs
Political leader is a word that brings on a feeling of distaste and disrespect to our minds. This is what the common people have experienced over the last six decades. A political leader is the person who does not do much of work but earns more than the average person. A political leader is a person who comes especially to meet you just before the elections and then never meets you till the next elections. These are some of the definitions which have been popular with the masses for almost four decades. Why do we have such definitions and notions about our political leaders? If this has been the case then how is it possible that the country has survived. India is still progressing in many fields. How is this possible? There can be only one explanation. There have been and still are a few political leaders who are really working hard for the welfare of the people. .
India has seen a huge change in the political scenario during the last Parliamentary elections. Since then, the common man has been gradually getting the confidence that good days are arriving. But there are some leaders who have been working hard long before last elections. One of them is the State Minister for Agriculture and many other Departments, Mr. Eknathrao Khadse. If we take a look at his resume we it becomes apparent. He has been a party worker for more than two decades. Even now, he has eight departments in his governance and he is managing them all well.
A brief survey of decisions and actions taken by him about just two issues will be sufficient to get an idea of the work Mr. Khadse has done in recent times. There had been a lot of speculation about sand mafia in the media for a long time. But nothing was done by the previous government and leaders. According to a new Policy Decision, under the leadership of Mr. Khadse, modern technology like E-Tendering, E-Auction, measurement of Total Station Belt of Mines by machines and SMAT (Sand Mining and Approval System) will be utilized by the Revenue Department to tackle issues of sand mining. A Bill about reforms in the Maharashtra Land Revenue Code was presented in the Monsoon session of the Legislative Assembly to bring effective control over the Sand Mafia. According to the reforms an action will be taken under M. P. D. A. against smugglers who illegally dig out sand and transport it. Improvements in the Laws and Rules regarding sand digging are under way to bring control over Sand Theft. On one hand, Mr. Khadse has brought on reforms to check sand smuggling and on the other he has taken measures to encourage legal sand digging. After taking permission from the Green Tribunal, a policy decision was taken to grant permission to dig out sand in all the four districts of Konkan. This will help in regulating sand digging in troubled areas. A decision was also taken that orders will be promptly given about granting permission to workers for removing sand by diving. Further measures are taken to control illegal sand mining. The fine charged for confiscated illegal minor minerals is five times now instead of three times. The rights to confiscate vehicles used for digging will be given to deputy collectors through collectors. This will ease out the pressure on the collectors to control sand mafia. A committee is also formed of officers from RTO, Revenue Officers and Police Officers to prevent illegal transportation of sand.
