My Journey

The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.’

They say one must remain focussed on the journey to greatness. The journey starts when you are self-aware and committed towards your aims and goals. Shri Eknath Khadse has maintained the same to achieve great heights in his political and personal life. Today he stands as one of the most prominent figures in politics in Maharashtra, however, his journey began from a small village in Jalgaon district. Khadse was born to a family of farmers on Sep 2 1952. The 64-year-old has ever since been associated to farming and agriculture.

The spiritual side
Compassion and empathy are two prime qualities of Khadse, which have been with him since childhood. He, at a very young age, realised the need to create awareness at grass root levels. He has not only worked towards solving issues but also ensured permanent solutions were found. A socially active youth, Khadse grew up in a simple household where the focus was on honesty and hardwork. He has never sidelined any subject or issue for his benefit. His whole and sole motive has been the betterment of the State and country. A spiritual person, Khadse is a part of the pilgrimage to Pandharpur during Ashadhi Ekadashi. People gather in huge numbers to get a glimpse of him and shower their love and blessings upon him. His faith and zeal during the procession is unmatched and he has been maintaining it for last 35 years.

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world
As a BCom student he strongly spread the message of unity and dedication through his social activities. A great orator, Khadse was also in the forefront of everything at home, school and college. This leadership quality has made him a favourite among masses. For him, social, cultural and education have been as important as his political career. It is evident through his continued contribution in the education sector where he serves as the Senate Member of Pune University since 1990 and also as the Member of the Managing Committee, Mahatma Phule Agriculture University, Rahuri, since 2000. Considered one of the most studious and upfront opposition leaders across Maharashtra, Khadse has a knack of putting forth his view. He has spoken at a stretch for eight and a half hours on a topic like VAT, in the Nagpur assembly session. His speeches have gained him the special honour from former Prime Minister, late Chandrasekhar.

Achievements and proud moments
Khadse may have made a humble beginning but his journey through the years is spectacular. He started his political career in 1984 as the Sarpanch of Kothali Grampanchayat of his village Kothali. He was elected for five consecutive terms from Muktainagar legislative assembly constituency. He went on to become the member of Panchayat Samiti, Zilla Parishad and MLA. He worked for important departments in the Shivsena – BJP lead government, from managing the portfolios of Higher and Technical Education Minister, Minister of Finance and Planning, Minister of irrigation and command area development to the Post of Opposition leader in Maharashtra Legislative assembly. His approach to people and level-headed decision making capabilities have gained him respect and love from grassroots worker to bigwigs in the political arena.

No secrets or shortcuts to success
Khadse is a strong believer in hard work, preparation and perseverance. It is under his impeccable guidance that Maharashtra has risen to an attractive destination for investors and businessmen. His sharp and quick decision on various laws has brought in a secure, supportive and transparent market for business. An example of this is faster state approvals related to land for businesses under Act 1966, 44 A wherein businesses applying for use of non-agriculture land will be given sanction within 60 days from the time of notice.

He has lent his continuous support to under privileged minorities. The Wadar community, which is engaged in ancestral tradition of stonework using their hands as tools, has been given a yearly ownership of up to 200 brass stones. He has controlled exploitation of land and natural resources. Better governance and efficient citizen services are a trademark of Khadse.

In the field of agriculture he has sanctioned Rs1600 cr to support and help 35 lakh farmers in distress due to crop damage. This is the largest sum that has been approved so far.
